The substantial circular charger presents a traditional Japanese decorative subject, combining the powerful figure of the tiger with bamboo and a naturalistic waterfall setting. The large format allows the composition to command considerable visual presence, making the piece particularly effective as a decorative wall display or as part of a collection of early Japanese ceramics. Produced in Arita, one of Japan's most celebrated centres of porcelain production, the charger represents the decorative ceramic tradition associated with the Edo period. The piece remains in good condition, with possible small restoration to the edge. Origin: Japan Period: Edo Period, pre-1800 Diameter: 33 cm See less
