The chest is arranged with three drawers, decorated with bold geometric panelled fronts and constructed with traditional side runners. A substantial planked oak top completes the upper section. Period construction details include rosehead nails, original panelled back and panelled sides. The drawers are fitted with old brass handles, although these are later replacements rather than the original fittings. The chest stands on bracket feet and does not retain a key. An especially practical feature of the construction is that the chest separates into two sections, allowing it to be transported and carried upstairs more easily. Presented in good antique condition, the chest remains sturdy and displays knocks, marks and surface wear consistent with more than three centuries of age and use.
