An unusual late 19th century Victorian silver chatelaine needle case, finely modelled in the form of a stylised arrow and … Read more An unusual late 19th century Victorian silver chatelaine needle case, finely modelled in the form of a stylised arrow and retaining its original suspension fittings. The elongated arrow shaft forms the cylindrical needle container and unscrews to reveal the interior compartment. The piece retains its hanging loop and decorative secondary clasp, originally allowing it to be suspended from a lady’s chatelaine or waist belt. Combining practical function with whimsical Victorian design, novelty sewing accessories such as this were both useful personal objects and decorative expressions of craftsmanship. Presented in excellent antique condition overall. The main body remains free from significant damage, distortion or losses and the needle case opens and closes correctly. One link from the suspension chain is missing and has been temporarily secured with string.
