The dish features a rich blue ground framed by an elaborate foliate scroll border, enhanced with finely executed gilt decoration. The combination of the intense ground colour, ornamental gilding and bird decoration creates a particularly striking example of Chamberlain Worcester production. Dating from around the period of the merger between Grainger and Chamberlain, the piece represents the refined decorative porcelain for which the Worcester manufacturers became celebrated during the first half of the 19th century.
