The walnut surfaces are embellished with finely worked floral and bird motifs, creating an elaborate decorative scheme across the substantial architectural form. The upper section features astragal-glazed doors retaining their original glass and providing generous display space. The lower section has a distinctive bombé form and incorporates three drawers fitted with decorative ormolu handles. The bookcase is raised on boldly modelled hairy paw feet, adding further character to its imposing design. The original back remains present. Brocade fabric and an additional panel were fitted at a later date and could be removed to reveal the earlier back beneath. The bookcase retains a key, although it is not currently functional. For transportation, the substantial structure separates into eight sections and requires two people for assembly. Presented in fair antique condition and structurally sturdy. One lock is missing from the upper drawer, and there are areas of veneer loss together with knocks, marks, small losses and general wear consistent with its considerable age.
