The substantial circular top measures 88 cm in diameter and is supported by an elegant tripod base, creating a distinctive combination of chinese materials and design influences associated with 18th-century anglo-chinese furniture. The contrast between the rich brown padouk, darker zitan and gilt ormolu decoration gives the table a particularly sophisticated appearance. Dating from the george ii period, this unusual table represents the european fascination with chinese materials and decorative arts during the 18th century.
