The substantial oak frame has developed a rich medium to dark colour and attractive natural patina. It is extensively carved with sculptural lion heads, paws and hairy feet, giving the stool a particularly strong and characterful appearance. Brass carrying handles are fitted to the sides, reflecting the substantial weight and practical design of the piece. The generously proportioned seat is upholstered in tan leather finished with traditional studded detailing. The leather was replaced at some point in the stool’s history and now displays several marks and signs of use. Presented in good antique condition and structurally sturdy, with age-related marks, knocks and splits to the oak together with wear and marks to the leather consistent with age and use.
