The rectangular top features detailed hand carving incorporating floral and foliate motifs, creating an attractive decorative surface while retaining the strong architectural character associated with Victorian oak furniture. The table is raised on substantial bulbous hand-turned legs, further embellished with carved floral decoration that continues the ornamentation of the top. The combination of robust construction, warm oak and deeply worked carving gives the piece a particularly imposing presence. Traditionally intended for an entrance hall, the table's versatile proportions also make it suitable for use as a console table or side table within a drawing room, reception room or country-house interior. The table remains in original antique condition and is structurally solid, retaining an attractive aged surface and patina.
