A curved, hinged shutter opens the cylindrical body of this copper lantern, apparently made for a bedside candle or night-light. Raised lettering reads “he that keepeth thee will not slumber”, from psalm 121:3, while a three-part strap handle is secured with rivets. Made around 1900–1910, it is attributed to the yattendon metalworking class in berkshire. The hand-worked construction and divided handle support that suggestion, although no maker’s stamp or documentary provenance establishes it. It measures approximately 13.3 cm high and 11.5–12.7 cm across the top. The copper has surface scratches, uneven patination and signs of use. The body is slightly irregular, with dents visible on the underside.
