Painted in oil over a luminous ground of genuine gold leaf, the work centres on an elaborate floral arrangement emerging from a woven basket, surrounded by symmetrical scrolling foliage, delicate flowers and ornamental arabesques. The sophisticated palette of blue, red, ochre and green stands out vividly against the warm metallic background, creating an effect that recalls the precious surfaces of historic Italian decorative interiors.
The composition draws on the long tradition of the grotesque, a decorative language that flourished particularly during the Renaissance and continued through the Baroque and Neoclassical periods. Its imaginative combination of natural forms, ornamental scrolls and playful fantasy gives the work a distinctive decorative character.
Executed in oil on canvas and presented in an elegant painted frame, the artwork measures 55 × 51 cm. Its compact format makes it particularly versatile above a console, in a study, entrance hall or refined eclectic interior.
A striking decorative painting that brings together classical ornamental references, contemporary craftsmanship and the luminous richness of genuine gold leaf.
