This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving is rendered entirely in lustrous silk, giving the piece a remarkable depth and soft sheen. The fine knotting technique showcases the master craftsmanship typical of high-quality antique rugs from this period.

The composition centers on a soothing field of soft ivory beige cream which provides a striking contrast to the deep indigo and slate blue elements. The subtle interplay of these cool tones is further enhanced by the silk's natural ability to reflect light, lending the textile an ethereal quality that shifts depending on the viewing angle.

The field is elegantly populated with delicate, stylized floral motifs and scrolling vines, characteristic of the refined aesthetic favored during the Republic era. The complex border system features traditional Chinese meander patterns and stylized cloud bands, framing the central design with architectural precision.

Perfectly scaled as a small scatter size, this piece is ideal for adding a touch of sophisticated history to an entryway, bedside, or intimate sitting area. The resilient silk pile ensures that this nearly century-old textile remains a vibrant and enduring work of art, representing the pinnacle of Chinese textile artistry. See less
