The sofa features an elegant carved shell-style back, sweeping lines, scrolling legs and traditional studwork. Its distinctive form and proportions capture the sophisticated decorative character associated with the emerging Art Deco aesthetic of the early 20th century. The cream leather upholstery remains in good overall condition, although it would benefit from cleaning or could be professionally hand-dyed according to the requirements of a particular interior. Offered as a restoration piece, the frame displays marks and areas of missing veneer consistent with genuine age and use. The seat itself is described as comfortable and in good order. An impressive statement sofa which would respond particularly well to sympathetic restoration while retaining the character and patina acquired during more than a century of use.
