The rectangular top provides a generous and practical writing surface while retaining relatively compact proportions, making the table particularly versatile for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Two useful drawers are incorporated into the front, providing convenient concealed storage for correspondence, stationery and personal items. Each retains its original brass handles, providing attractive period detailing and complementing the rich tones of the mahogany. Particularly appealing is the finely carved frieze beneath the top. The restrained decorative carving introduces depth and architectural interest while maintaining the refined character of the overall design. The table is raised upon four elegantly turned legs, creating a graceful and beautifully balanced silhouette while providing excellent strength and stability. The mahogany itself displays pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Deep, warm colour and an appealing aged patina give the timber considerable richness and character. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. At only 91 cm wide and 47 cm deep, this is a particularly useful size for interiors where a dedicated writing surface is desired without the footprint of a conventional desk. Its finished proportions also make it suitable as a writing table, occasional desk, dressing table or elegant console within a study, bedroom, drawing room or library.
