The chair features a high wing back with an adjustable reclining mechanism, allowing the backrest to be positioned at different angles. A concealed footrest pulls out from beneath the seat and can be raised and lowered, while the side sections also open, demonstrating the sophisticated functionality of the design. The base and feet are crafted from mahogany, while the chair has recently been reupholstered in tan leather and finished with traditional brass studding. The warm leather complements the rich tone of the mahogany and retains the imposing character of this substantial library chair. The attribution to Robert Daws is consistent with the type of adjustable reclining furniture for which his early 19th-century London workshop became known; however, the chair is offered as attributed rather than definitively documented as his work.
