The desk features an unusually configured kneehole positioned to the left, providing a comfortable working position while allowing the majority of the storage to be concentrated within the right-hand side. Above the kneehole is a generously proportioned double-width drawer, providing convenient storage for documents, stationery and writing accessories. To the right are four further drawers arranged vertically, creating five drawers in total and providing an impressive amount of organised storage within the relatively compact dimensions of the desk. All drawers retain their original brass handles and fittings, providing an attractive period detail and contrasting beautifully against the warm tones of the mahogany. The desk is raised upon elegant tapered legs fitted with castors, creating a light and beautifully balanced silhouette while allowing the piece to be repositioned more easily when required. Particularly appealing is the mahogany itself, displaying pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Deep, warm colour and an established patina give the timber considerable richness, depth and character. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. At only 91.5 cm wide, this is an exceptionally practical small desk, providing substantial drawer storage without requiring the space of a conventional pedestal desk. The 48.5 cm-wide kneehole provides useful working clearance, making it particularly suitable for a bedroom, study, library or compact home office. Its understated proportions and richly figured mahogany also allow it to function beautifully as a dressing table or sophisticated occasional writing desk.
