Offered is a mid 20th Century (circa 1960s to 1970s) sgraffito textured brown glazed stoneware umbrella and cane stand or floor vase that has an oblong leaf etched pattern and a ribbed band rim. The glaze is a deep reddish brown with hints of black, and the underlying stoneware is an almond tan. All images taken in natural daylight and very true to color.
It is austere and stately, and weighs approximately 35 lbs.
Measures: 9.25" diameter, 20" tall
There is no visible maker's mark or label although it resembles several of the vases of renowned Danish ceramists Axel Salto and Nils Thorsson. While Salto never crafted umbrella stands, ceramists such as Søholm Pottery, Michael Andersen & Søn, and Charmotte-style ceramics did make and market them.
