This vintage ceramic vase is a bold, sculptural piece of studio pottery, built as a tall, tapering vessel with a stacked, segmented body. A narrow, flared neck and lip rise from a conical shoulder. The shoulder is heavily textured with ridged, pinched, and torn clay that looks like rough-hewn bark or coral. Below, the body swells into a smoother, cylindrical midsection impressed with a fine, woven burlap-like grid. This section is banded top and bottom with rope-like, crimped seams of applied clay. The vessel finishes in a rounded, bulbous foot scored with fine, comb-like lines. Two irregular, branch-like handles loop out from the shoulder, each hand-pinched, knobby, and slightly crooked. The glaze is a vivid, glossy mix of lime, chartreuse, and citron yellow, with deep teal and emerald running down the neck and in vertical drips. It pools thickly in the crevices. The surface reads as a lively, molten landscape, deliberately uneven and unmistakably handmade.
Tall and expressive, this vase suits a console, mantel, sideboard, entry table, or the floor beside a sofa, where it can stand alone or hold branches, dried grasses, or pampas. It complements Organic Modern, Eclectic, Boho Chic, Mid-Century Modern, and Maximalist interiors. The vase measures 6.75 inches (171 mm) wide, 5.25 inches (133 mm) deep, and 14.75 inches (375 mm) high. Condition is good: the vibrant glaze shows the unevenness typical of handcrafted pieces, with intentional textural elements and no visible cracks or chips, and the vase is structurally sound. For care, dust with a soft dry brush, wipe gently with a barely damp cloth, and avoid abrasive pads. Use it for dried stems, or add a liner before holding fresh flowers.
