The tall backrest features a series of recessed rectangular panels decorated with small punched rosette motifs and incised geometric borders. Heavy upright posts crowned with shaped finials frame the back, while broad wooden armrests, paneled sides, and a thick plank seat complete the design. Constructed using traditional pegged joinery, the bench retains a remarkable surface with pronounced wood grain, hand-worked textures, and extensive historic wear. Its deep, almost black-brown patina contrasts with warmer chestnut tones along the seat, armrests, and heavily worn front rail, giving the piece a particularly distinctive character. Sourced in Provence, France, the bench has been structurally revised, cleaned, and waxed, preserving its historic surface and natural character.
