Elevate your collection with this captivating pair of antique Chinese ancestor portraits, dating from the late Qing Dynasty. Historically painted to honor deceased family members for filial worship, these traditional portraits showcase a distinguished nobleman and a noblewoman seated in formal attire.
Each figure is meticulously hand-painted with exquisite detail, from the intricate patterns on their traditional silk robes to the delicate rendering of their expressions and jewelry. The paintings are rendered on paper or silk and beautifully mounted within simple, classic black wood frames.
The reverse sides feature their original paper backing with a wonderful aged patina, intact hanging wires, and vintage handwritten provenance detailing ownership ("DOTTIE"). Selling as a complete, matching pair, these portraits offer a commanding presence and an elegant touch of history for any gallery wall, entryway, or living space.
These portraits date to the late Qing Dynasty (circa 1870s–1900).
Details: The style of dress, formal frontal posture, and the specific composition indicate late 19th-century or early 20th-century production. The backing paper and framing techniques, including the vintage handwritten name "DOTTIE" and wire styles, firmly support a mid-to-late 20th-century framing of an older antique work.
