This rare, late 19th-century (circa 1880–1900) French Japonisme Aesthetic Movement occasional table features:
Mottled "tiger" or scorched bamboo legs splayed outwards and joined by an offset dual-square bamboo compound stretcher.
An octagonal wooden surface finished in deep black lacquer with hand-painted gilt, red, and polychrome Chinoiserie artwork depicting birds and floral peony branches.
Four distinctive, retractable flap shelves suspended by narrow metal hardware or bamboo struts that swing flat against the main frame when closed.
Very good antique condition consistent with age and use.
