Set of 6 original antique Tree prints published in England in the late-1700s and early 1800s. These hand-colored engravings are from the First Edition of "English Botany", illustrated by James Sowerby (1757-1822). Sowerby was an English naturalist, artist, engraver and teacher. The First Edition is notable in that the engravings are fully hand colored, versus later editions that are partially colored.
The Trees shown on the prints include:
Top Row (L to R): Simple-leaved Ash (1812), Quicken Tree (1796), British Oak (1804)
Bottom Row (L to R): Wild Service Tree (1796), Red-berried Bryony (1797), Greater Maple (1796)
Each print measures 5 x 8 inches, and includes a certificate with additional information about the series and original page of accompanying text.
These are original antique prints - not reproductions. They are in excellent condition. Each print is packaged in an archival plastic sleeve with backing board. The series ships in a cardboard flat mailer with an enclosed cardboard insert for additional protection.
