Monserat created the composition using birthday-candle flames to deposit carbon onto paper. Repeated, overlapping marks form a rhythmic field of smoky black and brown against the warm-toned sheet. Variations in density and transparency record the movement of the flame, giving the work its distinctive, softly layered surface. The paper’s deckled edges are visible against a dark backing. Presented in a frame with protective plexiglass.

About the Artist
Angelo Monserat uses unconventional materials to explore the relationship between destruction and creation. He connects his practice to childhood observations of migration, economic instability, and the beauty and culture that emerged within marginalized communities.

His work has been featured in Design Milk and Design Crush and included in an interior published by INTERIORS magazine.
