The chairs … Read more A set of eight late 19th-century Swedish Gustavian style dining chairs, sourced in Menton on the French Riviera. The chairs retain their original ivory-painted finish with gilded accents and a naturally aged patina. The distinctive shield-shaped open backs feature gracefully curved splats centered by carved floral medallions. Delicate gilded detailing follows the contours of the backrests, while tapered front legs, gently curved rear legs, and low stretchers complete the restrained Neoclassical silhouettes characteristic of Gustavian design. The chairs have been structurally revised while preserving their original painted finish and aged character. The seats have been newly redone and upholstered in a textured floral fabric in muted olive green, featuring delicate ivory blossoms and coordinating welt band trim.
