Manufactured on October 7, 1974, at the historic Ethan Allen, Inc. factory in Eldred, Pennsylvania, these solid carved mahogany frames have been professionally restored from the ground up to bridge timeless Federal Revival elegance with cutting-edge modern textile design.
The classic Hepplewhite openwork shield backs fan out beautifully from a semi-circular base over sturdy, H-stretcher frames. Every chair has undergone an uncompromising, multi-layered structural upholstery rebuild. The custom seats feature a heavy-duty 12-ounce canvas deck wrap over stabilized spring bases (and period-correct solid factory inserts), layered with a half-inch of high-density stabilization foam, and crowned with an inch-and-a-half of premium high-density cushioning wrapped in thick dacron upholstery batting. This meticulously engineered layering ensures a perfectly symmetrical crown loft, uniform edge profile, and long-lasting residential durability.
The seats have been newly wrapped in a premier architectural textile: Knoll Textiles' "Vice Versa" performance fabric in the highly sought-after Sea Breeze colorway. Sourced directly from Knoll, this commercial-grade, multi-colored geometric grid features a sophisticated architectural weave of blue, slate, and neutral tones that make the rich mahogany finish pop. Boasting a heavy-duty wear rating of 60,000 Martindale double rubs, this high-performance material has been further treated with a dual-coat application of 3M Scotchgard fabric protector for ultimate liquid, oil, and soil repellency—making this set ideal for high-use, designer residential spaces.
Prior to seat reassembly, the solid mahogany frames were meticulously detailed, cleaned, and conditioned using a premium Howard Feed-N-Wax beeswax and orange oil treatment. This process deeply hydrated the 50-year-old wood grain, bringing out a warm, rich luster while safely preserving the irreplaceable original 1974 factory lacquer finish and its authentic vintage patina. The undersides of the seats are beautifully finished with crisp, professionally rolled black cambric dust covers, featuring the safely preserved, original factory identification tags.
