This vintage stoneware vase is a study in organic contrast, where raw clay meets rich, molten glaze. The bulbous, hand-thrown body swells gently from a modest footring and narrows at the shoulder before flaring into a softly rolled, outward-turned rim. The pale, sandy-buff stoneware is left unglazed across much of the belly, revealing fine throwing lines, tiny iron specks, and a dry, earthy texture that invites touch. From the neck, a glossy glaze in deep oxblood brown and near-black cascades downward in long, irregular drips, pooling into thick, glassy ribbons and leaving bare clay between them. A smudge of muted olive green near the lower body adds a painterly accent, and the interior flashes with creamy white and dark glaze at the lip. The high gloss of the glaze against the matte body creates a lively interplay of light and depth, while the slight asymmetry and visible glaze runs confirm the hand of a potter. The surface carries a soft, aged patina with minor irregularities that add authenticity and character.
Compact yet full of presence, this vase suits a bookshelf, mantel, console, or kitchen shelf, and it is equally striking alone or grouped with other earthy ceramics. It complements Rustic, Organic Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Japandi, and Farmhouse interiors. The vase measures 4.5 inches in width, 4.5 inches in depth, and 6 inches in height. Condition is very good: the original glaze is intact, with light scuffing at the base and no significant chips or cracks. For care, dust with a soft dry cloth and hand wash with mild soap and lukewarm water if needed. Use it for dried or faux stems, or add a liner before holding fresh flowers.
