Titled "Friendship," the work features Calder’s bold primary palette of saturated red, yellow and blue, with sweeping biomorphic forms and a pair of interlocking rings creating a wonderful sense of movement across the page. The large yellow form has a bird-like quality, appearing to soar above the smaller red and blue elements below.

The lower right bears Calder’s “CA ’74” monogram and is embossed with The Flying Colors Collection blindstamp.

The lithograph is especially beautifully presented, with the entire 20 by 26-inch sheet float-mounted over a wide white mat, allowing the edges of the paper and embossed blindstamp to remain fully visible. A substantial gilt wood frame gives the work an impressive overall presence while providing a warm contrast to Calder’s bold palette.

This is a wonderfully recognizable example of Calder’s work and a fantastic piece of 1970s American modernism.
