This vintage pair of ceramic Dalmatian dog bookends was designed in the spirit of classic Staffordshire mantel figures. Each spotted Dalmatian
is hand-painted in glossy white with black spots and expressive facial details, accented by a slender gilt collar. The dogs rest atop richly painted cobalt blue “cushions” with fine gilt detailing.
The elongated silhouettes and wonderfully whimsical expressions give the pair plenty of personality, while the classic blue, white and black palette makes them surprisingly versatile. Beautiful styled on a bookshelf, library console or mantel, and especially appealing in traditional, Grandmillennial, English Country or eclectic interiors.
Hollow ceramic construction with two vent openings to the underside of each base. Unmarked; maker unknown.
