This original work depicts a sweeping autumn countryside with brilliant red and golden foliage, slender trees, meadow grasses and a distant rural settlement beneath an expansive blue-and-white cloud-filled sky.
The artist uses loose, expressive brushwork and a beautifully layered palette of russet red, ochre, olive green, brown and soft blue, giving the landscape considerable depth and seasonal atmosphere. The composition has characteristics associated with 20th-century Russian realist and plein-air landscape painting.
The lower-right corner bears an artist’s signature or initials followed by “85.” The reverse of the canvas contains a faint handwritten pencil inscription in Cyrillic/Russian, which appears to contain information relating to the work; the inscription has faded considerably and has not been fully deciphered.
Presented unframed, retaining its original stretched-canvas margins. An appealing authentic vintage painting that would display beautifully in a traditional, collected, rustic or eclectic interior. See less
