Vintage Spanish Teruel Botijo by Cerámicas Punter, Hand-Painted Green & Manganese
Description:
A sculptural hand-painted botijo from Cerámicas Punter in Teruel, Aragón, the workshop tied to the Punter family of potters. The Punters are known for reviving the medieval Mudéjar ceramics Teruel was famous for, painted exclusively in copper green and manganese brown.
This one is covered in freehand stars, rosettes, spirals, and zigzag bands on a cream ground, with a tall filling neck and an angled drinking spout. Traditionally a botijo was a water vessel; today it's a perfect bud vase or shelf sculpture with serious presence.
Signed "PUNTER" with a model number on the unglazed base.
