Italian Gilt Iron Five-Light Chandelier with Porcelain Flowers, circa 1930 This enchanting five-light chandelier was most likely created in Italy around 1930 and reflects the romantic elegance of the Rococo Revival. Its graceful, cage-like frame is crafted from gilt iron and richly decorated with scrolling branches, acanthus leaves and numerous delicately modelled porcelain flowers in soft shades of lavender, yellow, ivory and pale green. The flowers are characteristic of Italian porcelain work in the Capodimonte tradition. Individually formed roses, carnations and bell-shaped blossoms are arranged across fine, curling metal tendrils, giving the chandelier an exceptionally light, organic and almost poetic appearance. When illuminated, the five lights cast a warm and atmospheric glow through the floral framework. The light brings the aged gilding and colourful porcelain blossoms to life, creating a wonderfully romantic ambience. Even when unlit, the chandelier has the presence of a suspended floral sculpture and introduces warmth, history and gentle colour into an interior. The elaborate metalwork, sculptural candle cups and original ceiling canopy demonstrate the chandelier’s fine craftsmanship. Its naturally aged surface and softly worn gilding lend the piece an authentic character that could not be reproduced by a modern finish. The original frame, chain, canopy and decorative elements have been carefully cleaned and conserved with Renaissance Wax. The candle sleeves have been sensitively colour-retouched to restore a harmonious overall appearance. All electrical wiring has been professionally renewed, and the chandelier has been grounded for additional safety. It is fitted with five E14 bulb sockets. Considering the age and delicate nature of the decoration, the chandelier remains in good to very good antique condition. Several porcelain flowers show small chips and minor losses, and it is likely that individual blossoms have been lost over time. These age-related traces do not detract from its remarkably rich and atmospheric overall appearance. Dimensions: Diameter: 55 cm / 21.65 in. Height without chain: 57 cm / 22.44 in. Overall height including chain and canopy: 82 cm / 32.28 in.
