A Dutch Golden Age stag hunt in oil on canvas, circa 1660-80, attributed to Abraham Hondius and initialed "AH" lower left. Hounds bring the stag down at the water's edge of a wooded lakeside landscape, a hillside rising in the distance under a clouded sky. It's a hallmark subject for Hondius, who built his reputation on scenes of animal combat and the hunt. The canvas is set in a period-style ebonized hardwood pie crust frame with a gilt bezel.
