This exceptional example of an Art Deco Chinese weaving captures the sophisticated transition between traditional Eastern motifs and Western modernism. It is a superb specimen among antique rugs of the period, demonstrating superior knotting technique and artistic restraint.

The commanding field is rendered in a saturated, deep indigo, creating a dramatic, almost painterly backdrop. The richness of the blue color rugs provides a stunning contrast to the delicate palette of the surrounding border, where soft corals, pale yellows, and muted greens emerge from the deep pile.

Rejecting the strict symmetry of classical design, the composition embraces the tenets of early modern modernist rugs. The floral elements—peonies, chrysanthemums, and trailing vines—are strategically placed along the edges, allowing the vast, open space of the central field to dominate the visual experience.

The impressive dimensions classify this piece as an essential large oversized rug, making it highly sought after for grand interiors and contemporary spaces requiring significant scale. This rug is a rare convergence of monumental size and delicate, refined Art Deco aesthetic, preserved in remarkable condition. See less
