Striking vintage folk art sculpture showcasing the distinctive layered, carved construction associated with tramp art genre. This highly sculptural vessel is formed from numerous individually cut and stacked pine wood elements, creating a dramatic openwork surface with a strong architectural quality and Art Deco aethetic.
The .5"w x 1"d hand-hewn pieces, visible end grain, warm honey and amber tones all combine to give this basket exceptional texture and character. Generously proportioned with a deep, open interior and tall, rising sides make it especially compelling as a sculptural decorative object.
A wonderful example of vernacular woodworking and folk art, with a compelling primitive, handmade presence. Equally at home displayed on a console, shelf, mantel, or incorporated into an eclectic collection of folk art and Americana objects.
Dimensions: 16"w x 10.2"d x 18.5"h.
Condition: As found, with the expected irregularities of an artisan created piece. Open top may have originally had a bridging element of some kind.
