This magnificent example of early 20th-century weaving represents the finest tradition of antique rugs. Hand-knotted from luxurious wool pile, its generous scale and refined aesthetic make it an exceptional centerpiece for a discerning interior.

The dramatic field is rendered in a saturated, near-midnight hue, providing a striking canvas for the delicate botanical imagery. This sophisticated use of a deep blue color rugs palette contrasts beautifully with the pale, luminous olive-green border, creating a visual depth characteristic of Peking production during this period.

The design employs an elegant, decentralized composition, allowing the dark ground to breathe. Scattered throughout the field are stylized depictions of flowering branches, birds, and precious objects, rendered in shades of cream, gold, and lighter blue. This sparse arrangement highlights the exceptional quality of the knotting and the purity of the design, typical of the era's restrained elegance.

Measuring impressively, this piece falls into the category of a large oversized big rug, perfectly suited to anchor a grand living room or dining hall. Its enduring elegance and superb condition ensure its status as a timeless piece of textile art, bridging traditional Chinese artistry with the modern sensibilities of the 1920s. See less
