Direct from France, a truly impressive antique French jardinière, almost four ft. in length, featuring a carved walnut frame with five superb hand painted faience panels, two bearing impressed maker’s marks for Maison Pichenot, J. Loebnitz Successeur, Paris.

The substantial walnut frame is skillfully carved in the Black Forest manner, with scrolling foliage, pierced details and elaborate carving defining its shaped silhouette on all sides.

The five faience panels are individually hand painted with finely detailed European scenes depicting different activities and village life, amidst rural landscapes, waterways and architecture.

Of particular note, two of the panels bear the impressed mark of Maison Pichenot, J. Loebnitz Successeur, Paris. Jules Loebnitz succeeded Pichenot in 1857 and became renowned for architectural and decorative faience. The impressed two-address mark found on these panels has been documented to the 1870s.

The jardinière also retains its long removable zinc liner, allowing it to be used as originally intended for plants or floral displays.

With its impressive scale, sculptural Black Forest carvings and documented Loebnitz faience, this exceptional piece commands attention as both a work of art and a dramatic focal point in any home.
