This is a vintage Italian Murano sommerso art glass bowl dating to approximately the 1960s. The substantial hand-formed glass has a striking sculptural quatrefoil form, with a rich ruby-red interior submerged within layers of aqua-blue and clear glass. The thick walls and deeply folded sides create wonderful optical effects as the colors shift and refract through the glass.
A beautiful example of mid-century Venetian art glass, equally striking displayed as a decorative bowl, catchall or sculptural object. Unmarked, as is common with Murano glass after the original paper labels have been lost. Attribution is based on the glass technique, coloration, construction and form. This is 6 inches wide and 3.5 inches high. Beautiful vintage condition.
