Gelatin silver print, printed in 1970s. A striking street photograph by celebrated photojournalist Henri Dauman, depicting two workmen transporting a large advertising display featuring Brigitte Bardot through an urban street in New York in 1964. The composition brilliantly juxtaposes everyday working life with one of the most recognizable faces of twentieth-century cinema, transforming a routine commercial task into a compelling meditation on celebrity culture and mass media. Dauman's exceptional sense of timing and composition creates a visually arresting image in which Bardot's glamorous portrait dominates the foreground while the anonymous workers remain firmly grounded in the reality of the city. The contrast between the monumental advertising image and the ordinary figures carrying it reflects one of the central themes of Dauman's photography: the intersection of popular culture, urban life, and modern visual experience. Best known for his work for Life, The New York Times Magazine, and numerous international publications, Henri Dauman documented the emergence of post-war celebrity culture with a distinctive blend of documentary realism and graphic sophistication. His photographs from the 1960s remain among the finest visual records of American society during a decade of profound cultural transformation.
