Set of two original engravings from the Zoophytes of Georges Cuvier’s 19th-century work, Le Règne Animal, illustrates diverse marine invertebrates with hand-colored details.
Anemones print (left)
Top (Fig. 1): A circular sea anemone with a dense crown of elongated, vibrant green tentacles radiating from a central dark mouth.
Bottom (Fig. 2): A textured, beige cushion-like anemone resting on a grey rock with a prominent yellow foot or base.
Starfish print (right):
Top (Fig. 1): A multi-rayed sun star colored in brilliant shades of orange and deep red.
Middle & Bottom (Figs. 2–4): Structural sketches showcasing various five-sided echinoderm shapes, including a slender five-armed starfish, a smooth pentagonal cushion star, and a textured, bordered sea star.
Dimensions: 7 x 10.5” each print / 14.5 x 10.5” set. Unframed, ready for custom framing. In very good condition, some foxing on print.
