Often associated with the "Abstract Soul" movement, his signature style blends deep-rooted cultural narratives with vibrant, musical rhythm.

PORTRAIT: The painting showcases the hallmarks of Evans' lauded "Abstract Soul" technique. The work abstracts the human form into deep, elongated curves and exaggerated anatomical features, highlighting the elegant slope of the neck and head.

In this work, Evans creates a striking juxtaposition by using smooth, high-contrast cool tones (deep navy and slate blues) for the stylized figure against a warm, highly tactile, and textured gold-to-umber background. True to his broader portfolio, the closed eyes and gentle tilt of the head imbue the subject with a deeply meditative, soulful, and serene presence.

ARTIST: Born in Smyrna, Tennessee, during the 1960s to a military father and a teacher mother, his childhood was deeply immersed in gospel music and comic book illustration.His professional journey started early, landing freelance commercial art work in Griffin, Georgia, at age 14. He went on to study fashion illustration at the Art Institute of Atlanta in 1986 to refine his draftsmanship.
Frustrated by the lack of creative freedom at design firms, he went independent beginning with a highly successful breakout exhibition at the Atlanta Black Arts Festival in 1994.
