The intimate composition depicts the expressive face of a young boy, rendered in warm ochre and golden-yellow tones with loose charcoal-black gestural lines.
The heavily textured surface, intentionally simplified facial features and spontaneous handling give the portrait a distinctly Expressionist / Neo-Expressionist character. Particularly appealing is the contrast between the raw, almost primitive quality of the portrait and its substantial traditional giltwood frame with layered architectural moldings and decorative borders.
