The saturated cinnabar-red carving is set against dark recessed grounds, creating pronounced depth across the figural landscape reserves and surrounding floral and foliate scrollwork.

The carving is particularly accomplished, with crisp edges, substantial undercutting and densely worked ornament extending across the bodies, necks and lower sections. Architectural landscape scenes with figures occupy the principal reserves, framed by scrolling botanical decoration that gives the lamps considerable sculptural presence from every angle.

Brass-tone fittings and dark circular bases complete the compositions, while the black drum shades provide a restrained contemporary counterpoint to the elaborate red lacquer surfaces. Each lamp stands 33.25 inches high overall and measures approximately 23 inches from the base to the bulb stem. The matched pair retain their original wiring, which is reported in good working condition.
