L. … Read more Design Plus Gallery presents The California Wonder Occident from Currier & Ives. The horse, Occident, was owned by Gov. L. Stanford and this print was published in 1873 It depicts Occident, a famous record-holding harness racing trotting horse and its driver. The horse was owned by Leland Stanford, the former California governor and founder of Stanford University. The artist, James Cameron took the image from an early photograph of the horse taken by famed photographer Eadweard Muybridge, and the original photograph did not survive. The print is encased in an etched brown wood frame with a thick off-white matte. It is in good condition for its usage. See less
