Large and vibrant original garden landscape by Francis Downs (F. Downs), a Palm Beach-area artist who maintained a studio in Lake Park, Florida.
This impressive painting depicts a lush flowering garden with a gently curving pathway surrounded by colorful beds of pink, yellow, purple, blue and red flowers. Dense foliage and dramatically shaded trees frame the foreground, opening into a bright blue sky and softly rendered landscape beyond.
Downs’ highly decorative approach combines elements of Folk Art, Naïve painting and Impressionist landscape painting, with expressive brushwork and an especially strong use of saturated color.
Signed “F. DOWNS” prominently at the lower left.
Presented in its substantial warm gilt-finished wood frame with a neutral linen liner. At over 4½ feet wide, this is an excellent statement piece for a Palm Beach, Florida Regency, coastal, traditional, maximalist or eclectic interior.
