Original signed floral still life by Francis “Duke” Downs, a longtime Palm Beach County, Florida artist.
This vibrant vertical composition depicts an abundant arrangement of white, coral-pink and lavender flowers accented by deep green fern-like foliage. Two dramatic white spider-mum-style blossoms anchor the arrangement, while tall white flowering stems create an elegant architectural quality against the soft powder-blue background.
Downs used expressive, dimensional brushwork throughout, with areas of pronounced impasto and raised texture that give the flowers and foliage considerable visual depth. The combination of crisp white blossoms, coral accents and pale blue creates a wonderfully fresh palette particularly suited to Palm Beach, coastal and colorful traditional interiors.
Signed “F. Downs” at the lower right. The painting remains unframed on its original stretched canvas, with the artist’s painted composition continuing naturally to the edges.
A highly decorative original work with excellent scale and presence.
