Spiegel, depicting an abundant field of wildflowers in a wonderfully soft and atmospheric palette.
The elongated composition is filled with expressive blue, lavender, pink, yellow and green flowers against a pale, almost ethereal background. The artist uses energetic brushwork and areas of substantial texture and impasto, particularly throughout the blossoms and dense foliage, giving the painting excellent depth and movement.
The unusually wide 41-inch panoramic format makes this an especially appealing decorative piece for placement above a console, credenza, sofa or bed.
Signed “L. Spiegel” at the lower right. Presented in its simple period wood frame with a warm gilt-toned inner edge. The reverse shows the original stretched-canvas construction and vintage hanging hardware.
