Elegant Japanese 4-panel painted byobu (folding screen) depicts a seascape scene with a Chinese nobleman with his guards and servants in two boats. Singed by artist. This byobu looks like it was partially printed and partially painted. Watercolor and ink on paper. Silk brocade border. Lacquered black wood frame with engraved copper corners showing some age patina. Paper on back. Japan, Shōwa era, c. 1970s. Very Good condition - minimal age overall, two very small and barely visible repairs on the 4th panel, two patches on paper back, strong hinges, clean, sturdy.
