The set consists of a larger baluster-form covered vase accompanied by a pair of tall faceted covered vases, creating a beautifully composed trio with considerable decorative presence.
Each vase is richly hand painted with intricate chinoiserie-inspired decoration incorporating exotic birds, flowering branches, stylized foliage, geometric latticework and ornamental cartouches. Soft blue and green predominate against the creamy ground, enlivened by touches of ochre, rust and deeper cobalt blue. The extensive decoration follows the contours of each vessel, while the sculpted lids and finials complete their distinctive silhouettes. Particularly appealing is the larger central vase with its rounded, vertically lobed body and wonderfully detailed garden scenes populated by colorful birds.
Founded in Belgium in the 19th century, Boch Frères became particularly celebrated for the artistic ceramics produced at its Keramis works. The painted factory marks found beneath these examples identify them as Boch Frères Keramis pieces and add an important element of provenance to this decorative set.
Surviving together as a set of three and in remarkably good antique condition, these covered vases offer both visual impact and versatility. They are equally effective displayed together as a collection or separated within an interior, where their beautifully muted palette works especially well with both antique and contemporary furnishings.
