Impressive 1906 original chromolithograph by famed artist Louis Akin (1868–1913) depicting the newly built El Tovar Hotel dramatically situated along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Akin became known for his paintings of Southwestern landscapes and Hopi Indian life and was commissioned by the Santa Fe Railway to paint the new El Tovar Hotel; this panoramic composition was completed in 1906.
The scene captures early visitors walking beneath windswept pines toward the hotel, with the immense layered landscape of the Grand Canyon stretching into the distance. Its large panoramic format, warm period coloring, and historic association with the early development of Grand Canyon tourism make this a particularly decorative piece of Western Americana and railroad history.
Presented in its dark wood frame with natural age and wear consistent with the period. In great condition.
