A charming antique sporting chromolithograph print by P.J. Smit, titled A Salmon Leap, from Richard Lydekker’s The New Natural History, published in New York by Merrill & Baker, circa 1899, American edition.
The illustration captures a salmon dramatically leaping from a rocky stream, rendered in muted greens, blues, and earthy tones characteristic of late 19th-century natural-history illustration. Beautifully presented with layered French-lined and marbled-paper matting in a richly figured burl-style wood frame, giving the piece a classic sporting-lodge character.
