A particularly graceful example of early Royal Doulton tableware, this set of four antique Countess plates dates to the early 20th century and carries registered design number 523784, dating the design to 1908.
Fine green garlands travel around each plate in a decidedly neoclassical composition, punctuated by oval floral medallions, petite rosettes and suspended ornament. A narrow geometric border follows the softly scalloped edge, finished with a slender line of gold.
The effect is wonderfully restrained: formal enough for an Edwardian table, yet fresh enough to layer easily with contemporary white china, green glass or a mix of inherited pieces. At just under nine inches, they are beautifully proportioned for luncheon, salad or dessert.
Each plate is marked Royal Doulton England, COUNTESS and Rd. No. 523784.

Measures approximately 0.75” tall, 8.875” wide and 8.875” deep.
In good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. One plate has a small chip along the rim, as shown in the close-up photograph, with associated loss to the gold trim. Additional wear to the gold edging and minor age-related marks/discoloration are present.
